Phoenix Golf Resort (Dragon Course)

About

The Dragon Course is one of three 18-hole courses at Phoenix Golf Resort, a 54-hole resort in Lương Sơn about 38 km west of Hanoi. The resort lies in a valley of limestone karsts that the club describes as 'Ha Long Bay on land'. The Dragon Course was laid out by CV Group chairman Lee Dae-bong from a base plan by Japan's M&K and shaped by Hiromitsu Tatsugawa. It is a par 72 of 7,281 yards from the black tees, with the 644-yard 4th as its hardest hole, a curving 230-yard par 3 at the 3rd that the club calls the 'banana hole', and the 547-yard 12th, its 'Korean peninsula hole'. The resort has a clubhouse with locker rooms, a restaurant serving Vietnamese and Korean food, a pro shop, and an on-site condo hotel and villas with indoor and outdoor pools. A new clubhouse opened and all three courses were renovated before the resort's Phoenix Reborn tournament in early 2026.

Hole 1 · Par 4

Gently curving par 4 from tees beside a creek on the right. The fairway leads up to a green with bunkers on its right.

Start steadily down the middle, as the club suggests.

Hole 2 · Par 4

Par 4 crossed by a creek about halfway, which then runs up the right side towards the green. Bunkers guard the front and right of the green.

Place the drive to leave a clear angle over the creek and front bunkers.

Hole 3 · Par 3

Long par 3 that curves left around trees to the green, known at the club as the 'banana hole'. Bunkers sit right of and behind the green.

Aim for the centre of the green rather than the flag.

Hole 4 · Par 5

Very long par 5 up a narrow, tree-lined corridor. A pond sits left of the fairway about halfway, with bunkers on the left and around the green.

The hardest hole on the course: take it in three steady shots.

Hole 5 · Par 4

Wide par 4 from a large tee complex, played straight up to a green with bunkers in front and to the right.

Pick the landing spot for the drive carefully; it sets up the whole hole.

Hole 6 · Par 4

Par 4 with a fairway that swings gently left, bunkers along the right side and a pond outside the right edge of the hole.

Keep the drive left of the right-hand bunkers and aim for the middle of the green.

Hole 7 · Par 3

Long par 3 played over rough to a green at the top of the hole, with small ponds to either side of the line.

The club notes the wind here: aim for the centre of the green.

Hole 8 · Par 5

Long par 5 whose fairway snakes up between trees, with bunkers on both sides and a pond to the left of the green.

Lay up and approach in three, as the club recommends.

Hole 9 · Par 4

Straight par 4 with a bunker on the left of the fairway and trees down both sides.

Favour the right side of the fairway, as the club advises.

Hole 10 · Par 3

Short par 3 played over a pond that curls around the front and right of the green. A bunker sits at the front.

Take enough club to carry the water, then read the green's slopes.

Hole 11 · Par 4

Straight par 4 between trees, with bunkers on the left as you near the green.

Play to a safe part of the green rather than the flag.

Hole 12 · Par 5

Par 5 known at the club as the 'Korean peninsula hole'. The fairway runs up from tees beside a pond on the left, with bunkers on the left side.

Play for the green in three, as the club suggests.

Hole 13 · Par 4

Par 4 with a creek down the left side and bunkers set in and around the fairway and green.

A good drive opens up a birdie chance here.

Hole 14 · Par 4

Par 4 that curves gently around a creek running down the whole left side, with a line of bunkers on the right.

Avoid the right-hand bunkers and find the centre of the fairway.

Hole 15 · Par 4

Par 4 that bends left near the green, with bunkers on the left of the fairway and around the green.

The club says it plays uphill: take an extra club for the approach.

Hole 16 · Par 3

Long par 3 over rough, with a large lake left of the line and bunkers either side of the green.

Take enough club and aim for the middle of the green.

Hole 17 · Par 5

Long, gently curving par 5 with bunkers along the left of the fairway and near the green.

Accuracy off the tee matters most on this hole.

Hole 18 · Par 4

Straight par 4 finishing hole with bunkers on the right of the fairway and to the left of the green.

Keep it on the fairway and play for par.
