BRG Kings Island Golf Resort – King's Course

Hanoi, Vietnam · Rated 4.5/5 · From $150–$0

About

BRG Kings Island Golf Resort sits on the shores of Đồng Mô Lake, about 36 kilometres west of Hanoi in Sơn Tây. A short speedboat ride across the lake takes you to the resort, with the Ba Vì mountain range and the open water of the reservoir all around. The King's Course is the newest of the three, designed by Jack Nicklaus II and opened in 2018. It is built to the most modern design standards, and its signature is the resort's unique 55th hole, a par 3 played from a tee above a rock waterfall to an island green beside the clubhouse. It is one of three 18-hole courses at the resort, alongside the Lakeside Course and the Mountain View Course. The clubhouse sits on a hilltop with views over the courses and the lake. There is a driving range and practice area to warm up, and the Swing Restaurant in the clubhouse serves international food before or after your round.

Handicap

Front Hole 1 · Par 4

A tee shot over the creek to a wide fairway. Bunkers sit up the left and one short and right of the green, which is also guarded by sand.

Clear the creek with a club that finds the wide part of the fairway.

Front Hole 2 · Par 5

A long, tree-lined par 5 with bunkers on both sides of the fairway and more around the green at the far end. A three-shot hole for most.

Play it as a three-shot hole and keep the second clear of the left-side bunkers.

Front Hole 3 · Par 4

A long par 4 that bends left towards the green. A lake sits right of the tee shot, bunkers line both sides of the fairway and a sandy waste area runs right of the green.

Favour the left half off the tee to stay clear of the lake on the right.

Front Hole 4 · Par 3

The shortest hole on the front nine: a 154-yard par 3 to a large green with a bunker on its right side, framed by trees.

Aim for the middle of the large green and keep away from the right-side bunker.

Front Hole 5 · Par 4

A par 4 where a creek crosses in front of the green and wraps around its right side. Bunkers sit along the fairway in the landing area.

Take enough club on the approach to carry the creek.

Front Hole 6 · Par 3

A 189-yard par 3 played entirely over water to a green guarded by several bunkers.

Commit to the full carry and aim for the fat part of the green.

Front Hole 7 · Par 4

A shorter, tree-lined par 4 with bunkers on both sides of the fairway and more around the green.

A controlled tee shot between the bunkers leaves a short approach.

Front Hole 8 · Par 5

The hardest hole on the card: a 555-yard par 5 that swings right. A lake runs down the left of the second shot and sits beside the green, with bunkers along the way.

Lay up right of the lake and leave a full wedge into the green.

Front Hole 9 · Par 4

One of the toughest holes: a 479-yard par 4 where a creek crosses the fairway twice, once off the tee and again in front of a green set beside the water.

Respect the creek in front of the green; a miss short is better than in the water.

Back Hole 10 · Par 4

A long, tree-lined par 4 of 478 yards with bunkers on both sides of the landing area and more around the green.

Find the fairway between the bunkers to make the long approach manageable.

Back Hole 11 · Par 5

One of the toughest holes and very long at 631 yards: a par 5 with water down both sides and clusters of bunkers left and right through the middle.

Three straight shots win here; avoid the water on either side.

Back Hole 12 · Par 4

A par 4 that bends sharply left around a lake, which runs along the left side and sits beside the green. Bunkers line the right of the fairway and green.

Take a line that keeps the lake left without running into the right-side bunkers.

Back Hole 13 · Par 4

A straight par 4 with bunkers on both sides of the fairway and water right of the green.

Keep the approach on the left half of the green, away from the water.

Back Hole 14 · Par 3

A 170-yard par 3 to a green on a point of land, with water along the right and behind. Bunkers guard the left and front of the green.

Aim at the centre and accept a miss left rather than right.

Back Hole 15 · Par 4

One of the harder holes at 482 yards: the tee shot carries the edge of a lake that then runs all the way down the right side to the green.

Aim down the left half of the fairway, away from the lake on the right.

Back Hole 16 · Par 4

The easiest hole on the card: a short par 4 that turns right near the end. Bunkers sit left of the landing area and surround the green.

A shorter club off the tee leaves a wedge into a well-bunkered green.

Back Hole 17 · Par 3

A long par 3 of 221 yards played over the edge of a lake that runs along the right. Bunkers sit left of the green and short on the right.

Take plenty of club and favour the left side, away from the lake.

Back Hole 18 · Par 5

A 549-yard par 5 that bends right and then back left. Water lies right off the tee and left of the green, with bunkers at the corner and around the green.

Play to the corner first, then lay up so the last shot keeps away from the water on the left.

Bonus hole Hole 19 · Par 3

A bonus par 3 from a raised tee above a rock waterfall to an island green beside the clubhouse: 160 yards from the Kings tee and 99 from the Queens tee.

Every shot must carry to the island, so take enough club to reach the middle of the green.
