About
BRG Kings Island Golf Resort sits on the shores of Đồng Mô Lake, about 36 kilometres west of Hanoi in Sơn Tây. A short speedboat ride across the lake takes you to the resort, with the Ba Vì mountain range and the open water of the reservoir all around. The Lakeside Course is the original course at Kings Island, designed by architect Robert McFarland in 1993. It measures 6,511 yards and plays to a par of 72, and it makes full use of the water: the lake shapes the challenge throughout the round. The greens are small and laid with fine TifDwarf, and the Bermuda fairways are kept to international standards by a specialist team. It is one of three 18-hole courses at the resort, alongside the Mountain View Course and the King's Course. The clubhouse sits on a hilltop with views over the courses and the lake. There is a driving range and practice area to warm up, and the Swing Restaurant in the clubhouse serves international food before or after your round.

Hole 1 · Par 4
A short par 4 that starts from an island tee: the drive carries a strip of lake onto a tree-lined fairway. One bunker sits on the left of the landing area and there are bunkers left and right of the green.
Take enough club to clear the water comfortably, then stay right of the fairway bunker on the left.
Hole 2 · Par 5
A 512-yard par 5 whose fairway snakes between rows of trees. A cluster of bunkers guards the left of the driving zone and two more sit short left of a small green.
Drive down the right half away from the bunker cluster, and come into the green from the right.
Hole 3 · Par 3
A par 3 played across an arm of the lake. Bunkers sit short left, short right and behind the green, and the water runs short and right.
Water is short and right, so take an extra club and favour the left half of the green.
Hole 4 · Par 4
A fairly straight par 4 with the lake down the whole right side and trees on the left. There is one bunker right of the green. At stroke index 5 it is one of the harder holes on the front nine.
Aim down the left-centre and keep the approach away from the bunker and the water on the right.
Hole 5 · Par 4
A dogleg right around the lake, which runs along the entire right side. Two bunkers sit at the corner on the water side, with another short left of the green and trees down the left.
Don't try to cut the corner over the water. Play to the wide left side of the fairway.
Hole 6 · Par 4
The shortest par 4 on the card at 320 yards, but the narrow way in is lined with bunkers on both sides, and more bunkers wrap around the green. Trees line both sides.
Lay up to the wide part of the fairway and leave a full wedge into the green rather than forcing the drive.
Hole 7 · Par 5
At 558 yards and stroke index 1, the hardest hole on the card. It is a long dogleg left with bunkers on both sides of the landing area, a long bunker and the lake right at the bend, and trees on both sides.
Play it as three shots and keep the second away from the bunker and water on the right of the corner.
Hole 8 · Par 3
A 200-yard par 3 with the lake short and right of the line from the tee. A large bunker sits left of the green and there are two more on the right, between the green and the water.
Use the bail-out ground short and left. A miss to the right finds sand or water.
Hole 9 · Par 4
A strong par 4 and one of the toughest on the card. A long waste bunker and the lake run down the right, with two bunkers on the left, and a creek crosses in front of the green.
Drive left-centre between the hazards, and take enough club to carry the creek into the green.
Hole 10 · Par 5
A par 5 that bends gently right through an avenue of trees. The tee shot starts beside the lake on the left, and bunkers sit right and short left of the green. It is the easiest hole by stroke index.
Start the drive right of the water and a good second leaves a short pitch, so attack this one.
Hole 11 · Par 4
A par 4 with the lake down the left of the fairway, which turns right towards a green guarded by two large bunkers short and right.
Aim right-centre off the tee, then approach from the left so you avoid the bunkers short right.
Hole 12 · Par 3
A long par 3 of 213 yards to a deep green with a bunker on each side of the approach and trees behind.
Take enough club and aim at the middle of the green; running it on short is safer than going long.
Hole 13 · Par 5
A 511-yard dogleg left and one of the toughest holes on the card. Two ponds sit by the tee and bunkers are scattered along both sides of a tree-lined fairway, with a group short left of the green.
Keep the drive right of the ponds and come into the green from the right side.
Hole 14 · Par 3
A 172-yard par 3 with long, wavy bunkers down both sides of a narrow green and trees lining the tee area.
Accuracy matters more than length here. Aim at the centre of the green.
Hole 15 · Par 4
A dogleg left around the lake, which runs along the left and sits short left of the green. Bunkers line the right of the fairway, and one long bunker curls around the back of the green.
Drive to the right-centre and approach from the right so the water short left is out of play.
Hole 16 · Par 3
A 223-yard par 3 played entirely over the lake to a green with bunkers front left and front right. It is the course's standout water hole.
Carry the water first. If in doubt, take one more club and aim for the middle.
Hole 17 · Par 5
A par 5 dogleg left with the lake along the whole left side and two ponds crossing the fairway at the halfway point. Bunkers line the right at the corner and surround the green.
Plan the second shot so it either lays up short of the ponds or carries them cleanly.
Hole 18 · Par 4
A closing par 4 that bends right with bunkers on the right of the landing area. A creek cuts diagonally across the front of the green, which also has bunkers on its left.
Drive up the left side away from the bunkers, then make sure the approach carries the creek.
