BRG Kings Island Golf Resort – Mountain View
Hanoi, Vietnam · Rated 4.5/5 · From $151–$0
About
BRG Kings Island Golf Resort sits on the shores of Đồng Mô Lake, about 36 kilometres west of Hanoi in Sơn Tây. A short speedboat ride across the lake takes you to the resort, with the Ba Vì mountain range and the open water of the reservoir all around. The Mountain View Course was designed by Pacific Coast Design of Australia and opened in 2004. It stretches 6,978 yards to a par of 72, with wide views of the mountains around the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism. Its surface is Novotec grass imported from Australia, chosen because it stays durable in every kind of weather the north of Vietnam brings. It is one of three 18-hole courses at the resort, alongside the Lakeside Course and the King's Course. The clubhouse sits on a hilltop with views over the courses and the lake. There is a driving range and practice area to warm up, and the Swing Restaurant in the clubhouse serves international food before or after your round.

Hole 1 · Par 4
A straight, tree-lined par 4. A pond sits right of the fairway short of the green and another runs left of the green, with a fairway bunker right and two bunkers front-left of the green.
Keep the drive in the left-centre to stay clear of the right-hand bunker and pond.
Hole 2 · Par 5
A long 559-yard par 5 between rows of trees. Water lies left of the driving area, three bunkers squeeze the second-shot landing zone and two more sit left of the green.
Lay up between the mid-fairway bunkers and leave a full wedge in.
Hole 3 · Par 4
The hardest hole on the card: a tight 417-yard par 4 lined with trees on both sides. Bunkers sit right of the landing area and left further on, and two more guard the right of the green.
Accept a longer approach to find the fairway, and miss the green left rather than right.
Hole 5 · Par 4
A split fairway divided by a line of bunkers, with ponds off the right side and another pond behind and left of the green. Two bunkers guard the left of the green.
Choose the left or right fairway on the tee and commit; the bunkers in the middle catch indecision.
Hole 7 · Par 5
A 517-yard par 5 with water along the whole left side and trees down the right. Bunkers sit on both sides of the landing area and one guards the front right of the green.
A reachable par 5, but favour the right half off the tee to keep the water out of play.
Hole 8 · Par 4
A lake runs the full length of the hole, with the fairway and green on its right bank and water wrapping behind the green. A single bunker sits between the water and the front left of the green.
From the back tees, aim at the right-hand fairway and keep the approach on the right of the green.
Hole 9 · Par 4
One of the toughest holes: a 414-yard par 4 with water beyond the trees all the way down the left. A bunker sits right of the landing area and others guard both sides of the green.
Hit the drive to the left-centre, between the right-hand bunker and the trees.
Hole 10 · Par 4
A 425-yard par 4 angling gently right, with a small pond just left of the tees and trees down the right. A bunker ends the fairway on the left, and bunkers sit either side of the green.
Start the drive at the left-centre; the trees on the right block the angle into the green.
Hole 11 · Par 4
A long 431-yard par 4 through a corridor of trees, with two bunkers left of the landing area. The small green has a bunker on each side.
Favour the right side off the tee and aim at the middle of the small green.
Hole 12 · Par 5
A 570-yard par 5 that doglegs right, with a bunker at the outside of the corner and another on the inside. Ponds sit right of the corner and left of the green, which is guarded by bunkers on both sides.
Play the drive to the left-centre, short of the corner bunker, to open up the dogleg.
Hole 13 · Par 3
A 212-yard par 3 played over a large pond that fills the space between the tee and the green. Bunkers wait left and front right of the green.
Take enough club to carry the water; long is far safer than short.
Hole 14 · Par 4
A sharp dogleg left, with trees tight along the inside of the corner. On the approach, water and a bunker lie on the right of the green.
Drive to the outside of the corner for a clear view, then keep the approach left of the flag.
Hole 15 · Par 5
One of the toughest holes: a 555-yard par 5 through trees, narrow off the tee before it widens. Three bunkers line the left side of the approach and green.
Keep the second shot to the right side so the third avoids the left-hand bunkers.
Hole 16 · Par 4
A 379-yard par 4 that bends right. Bunkers sit on both sides of the turn, and two more line the right side of the approach near the green.
Aim the drive at the left-centre between the two bunkers, then play the approach to the left half of the green.
Hole 18 · Par 4
A 364-yard par 4 curving gently right, with a bunker right of the fairway. A pond crosses in front of the green, which is ringed by bunkers left, right and behind.
Drive to the left-centre and take enough club to carry the pond.
