About

Trang An Golf & Resort lies in Nho Quan, Ninh Bình, about 100 km south of Hanoi, beside Đồng Chương lake. The holes are cut through mature pine forest, with limestone hills of the Tràng An landscape around them. The 18-hole Champion Course, designed by Mark Rathert of Golf East, is a par 72 of up to 7,200 yards with 98 bunkers, two lakes and five streams over sloping ground. Alongside it, the Pine Course is 18 consecutive par 3s, just under 3,000 yards, set entirely in the forest. The resort has bungalows, chalets, villas and a golf hotel, the Thông Reo restaurant and an infinity-edge lake pool, plus kayaking, zipline and camping. The group also runs a 60-bay driving range in Ninh Bình city.

Hole 1 · Par 4

A gentle opener that runs toward the lake: the green sits with water behind it on the right. Fairway bunkers pinch the landing area on both sides, and two more guard the front left of the green.

Favour the left half off the tee to stay clear of the lake on the approach.

Hole 2 · Par 5

The longest hole on the front nine, a three-shot par 5 with a cluster of bunkers short and right of the green.

Hole 3 · Par 4

A short par 4 through a corridor of forest. A rock-lined stream with a small waterfall runs in front of the green.

Long hitters may be tempted; the narrow fairway rewards a lay-up and a wedge in.

Hole 4 · Par 3

The shortest hole on the course: a wedge over a rock-lined creek to a green with a large bunker at the front and the lake beyond.

Hole 5 · Par 4

A par 4 framed by palms and pines, with bunkers dotted along both sides of the fairway.

Hole 6 · Par 4

The hardest hole on the card: a long par 4 running beside the lake on the left, with the palm-lined shore following you all the way to the green.

Anything pulled left is wet; the safe miss is right.

Hole 7 · Par 4

Another hole beside the lake on the left, with a bunker sitting between the fairway and the water.

Hole 8 · Par 3

A long par 3 with the lake along the left and a sweeping bunker between the water and the green.

Hole 9 · Par 5

A par 5 to close the front nine, with the lake on the left and a green ringed by bunkers.

Hole 10 · Par 4

The back nine opens with views of the limestone mountains. Three bunkers guard the front of the green.

Hole 11 · Par 4

The easiest hole on the card: a short par 4 through a tight corridor of tall trees.

Hole 12 · Par 4

A long par 4 down a wide fairway lined with pines and palms.

Hole 13 · Par 4

A dogleg par 4 with bunkers scattered around the landing area and the green.

Hole 14 · Par 5

A demanding par 5 between the pines, rated the second-hardest hole, with bunkers around the green.

Hole 15 · Par 3

A long par 3 over a stream to a green with bunkers on both sides.

Hole 16 · Par 5

A three-shot par 5 finishing at a green with water short and left and bunkers behind.

Hole 17 · Par 3

A long par 3, 235 yards from the back tee.

Hole 18 · Par 4

A long finishing par 4, 500 yards from the back tee, to a green with bunkers around it.
