About

Van Tri Golf Club lies on the north side of Hanoi in the former Dong Anh district, about 30 minutes from the city centre. It is a private club inside a villa estate, open only to members and the guests they book. The Peter Rousseau course opened in 2007. It is a par 72 of 6,700 yards from the medal tees and over 7,200 from the back tees, with Paspalum surfaces. Lakes and streams are in play on most holes. The par-3 4th over water is the club's signature hole. The course is floodlit for twilight play. The clubhouse has locker rooms with a sauna, a pro shop, the Lang restaurant, a terrace and a bakery.

Hole 1 · Par 4

Opening par 4 that bends gently right, with water down both sides, a fairway bunker on the right and bunkers left of the green.

Drive just right of the fairway bunker and take care with club choice into the raised green.

Hole 2 · Par 4

Short par 4 with water along both sides, a bunker on the right of the fairway and bunkers short-right and behind the green.

Favour the left half off the tee to bring the green-front bunker out of play.

Hole 3 · Par 4

Long, slightly curving par 4 with water on both sides, bunkers on both edges of the fairway and bunkers around a wide green.

Aim at the right edge of the left fairway bunker; distance control matters on the approach.

Hole 4 · Par 3

Par 3 played over water to a large, contoured green, with water wrapping the left and back and bunkers on the left side.

Aim for the middle of the green whatever the pin; the contours do the rest.

Hole 5 · Par 4

Straight par 4 with a line of four bunkers down the right of the fairway, and water on both sides of the fairway.

Play safe away from the right-hand bunkers; the right side of the green is more forgiving.

Hole 6 · Par 5

Long par 5 heading up and left from the tee, with bunkers along the fairway, water on the right and a small green ringed by bunkers.

Drive between the two fairway bunkers to leave a comfortable lay-up.

Hole 7 · Par 3

Short par 3 to a green with bunkers on both sides and one short in the approach, with water behind the green and to the right.

Players often miss left into the bunker; there is room between the right edge and the water.

Hole 8 · Par 4

Short par 4 with water from the tee and along the left the whole way, a long hazard on the right and a green guarded by a bunker at the front.

Clear the water off the tee and judge the approach carefully; it is the stroke index 1 hole.

Hole 9 · Par 5

Par 5 with water down both sides, fairway bunkers left and right, and water crossing in front of a green surrounded by bunkers.

Keep away from the left fairway bunker; aim at the right one off the tee.

Hole 10 · Par 4

Par 4 of moderate length with water down the right, two fairway bunkers in the middle and a bunker left of the green.

Aim left of the bunker off the tee and use a short iron into the tricky green.

Hole 11 · Par 5

Par 5 bending right around water, with a tree line on the right corner, bunkers along the fairway and beside the green.

Resist cutting the corner right; long hitters may reach in two.

Hole 12 · Par 4

Par 4 with two fairways split by a stand of trees, water short of the fairway and down the right, and no bunkers.

The right fairway is shorter but brings the water into play; go left for a left pin.

Hole 13 · Par 3

Par 3 to a long green with a large bunker down its left side and water to the right of the tee shot and behind the green.

Club choice varies with the pin; bailing out right brings the water in.

Hole 14 · Par 4

Long par 4 with water down both sides, a fairway bunker on the left, a pond crossing the fairway short of the green and two bunkers at the front.

Drive right of the fairway bunker and judge the distance to the pond carefully.

Hole 15 · Par 4

Short par 4 with water along both sides, a ridged fairway bunker in the landing area and bunkers around the green.

Lay up short of the fairway bunker and play a short iron in.

Hole 16 · Par 3

Par 3 played across a lake to a green set to the left of the tees, with bunkers short and behind the green.

The green looks wide from the back tees and narrow from the forward tees; aim at the centre.

Hole 17 · Par 5

Long par 5 with water down the left, bunkers in the middle of the fairway and a creek crossing twice in front of the green.

Lay up short of the creek and keep clear of the narrow strip of fairway near it.

Hole 18 · Par 4

Mid-length par 4 with water down both sides and wrapping the left of the green, fairway bunkers in the landing area and bunkers right of the green.

Aim right of the pin; the green slopes towards the water on the left.
