Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong sits on Vũ Yên Island, between the Cấm and Bạch Đằng rivers, about 15 minutes from Hai Phong city centre and 30 minutes from Ha Long. Hanoi is around 120 km away. Designed by IMG and opened in April 2017, it was the first island golf course in northern Vietnam, and its 36 holes are split into two 18-hole courses that play quite differently: Lakes and Marshland. The Lakes Course is a resort-style par 72 of 7,333 yards from the back tees, routed through a chain of connected lakes, with water in play on 12 holes. The fairways are generally broad and the greens large, with smooth but subtle slopes. The ground in front of most greens is open, so you can run the ball on. Length off the tee and finding the right side of the pin are what make a score here. The Marshland Course is a par 72 of 7,291 yards that winds through preserved natural wetlands. The fairways are narrower, so placement matters more than distance, and grass-faced bunkers and small to medium greens ask for accurate approaches. It suits golfers who like to shape the ball and think their way round. Both courses have Platinum Paspalum fairways, tees and rough with TifEagle greens, which keeps them in good condition all year. The wind off the rivers can change how a hole plays. There is a 300-yard grass driving range, practice bunkers and two large putting greens, every golfer has their own caddie, and the clubhouse has locker rooms, a pro shop and a restaurant.
